20160113084036_66Q24N – Following the capture of Mexico’s Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán last week, the world’s most wanted drug lord is a woman from Colombia. Almost nothing is known about Maria Teresa Osorio de Serna, but she is at the top of the DEA’s most wanted list for money laundering and cocaine conspiracy violations.

She has been on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Division (DEA)’s most wanted list since 2005, according to Today Colombia reports, but very little is known about her — even in her native country, where she holds no criminal record.

Maria Teresa Osorio de Serna, but she has also gone by Maria Teresa Correa, Gloria Bedoya, Iris Conde and Teyer Washington in the past is suspected of having laundered millions of dollars for the infamous Medellín Cartel that was founded in the 1980s by the late drug lord Pablo Escobar, reports BBC Mundo.

Osorio, who it is believed was born in 1945 or 1950, is something of a ghost. Her last known address in the U.S. was Hialeah, Miami, though it is thought that she is hiding out in Colombia.

El Chapo now faces extradition and sentencing in the U.S., where no less than six charges have been made against him for his drug trafficking and illegal activities.
