QCOSTARICA – The hundreds of Africans stranded at the border between Costa Rica and Panama have free movement, as the Costa Rican government withdrew almost all the shelter staff.

Confirmed, at the moment only two police officials and three immigration officers are present in the area.

An immigration official told ElMundo.cr, “the decision comes from above (Luis Guillermo Solis) not to detain anyone, let them continue on their journey, we don’t have the staff to control so many people.”

The official added that their duty is to register all the migrants, but, they can’t all of them. “The police will not stop them and we will remove all the roadblocks,” said the immigration official.

This leaves the African migrants to freely move north to the Nicaraguan border, where they can then continue onto their final destination, the United States.

Authorities at the Panama border estimate over a hundred people are entering the country daily, this because Panama is also allowing them free movement.
