Costa Rica Health Confirms New Case of Chikungunya

COSTA RICA NEWS – The Ministry of Health (Ministerio de Salud) confirmed a new case of the Chikungunya or ChikV virus in the country, bringing the total to 14 people infected so far this year.

The latest is a woman resident of Heredia.

María Ethel Trejos, of Health Surveillance (Vigilancia de la Salud), explains that they are waiting for confirmation whether it is imported or local and that control measures have been taken in the area where the woman lives.

The latest case is one of ten samples tested by the Health laboratory. Of the other nine, seven were negative, two are being retested.

Meanwhile, the country continues on alert. The transmission of the virus is the same mosquito that transmits dengue, ie the Aedes Aegypti.
