QCOSTARICA – Costa Rica President Luis Guillermo Solis is among the 150 world leaders to take part in a series of meeting at the United Nations in New York city, beginning with the Substainanle Development Summit where they will approve a new set of goals to eradicate extreme poverty and combat climate change, in addition to addressing other major global issues.

The new sustainability goals, which was presented Friday afternoon, will replace the Millennium Development Goals which were established in 2000 and due to come to an end by 2015.

Some of the new goals include: building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation; making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable; ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns; taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts; and a very poignant bringing an end to poverty in all its forms everywhere, to name only a few.

On Wednesday, President Solis will deliver his speech to the UN General Assembly, at 10:30am (Costa Rica Time).
