While for many January is a time to take stock of finances and plan out their savings for the year; retailers, however, offer discounts to attract customers to their stores.

Major retailers in January offer  their “After Christmas Sale” promotions with discounts of up to 60%. And while some have already started their discount season, others will be starting this weekend.

Igor Briceño, marketing director at Grupo AVA, that handles brands like Extremos, Converse, Puma, Levi’s, Dockers and Crocs said “it’s not because it is better buying in January than in December, it all depends on the needs of each person, but they can take advantage of promotions offered this month.”

Other retailers like Inditex that handles the brands  Zara Home, Massimo Tutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Zara and Pull&Bear are offering 50% off on selected merchandise. Not to be unbeaten, Corporación Strena, a group that handles the brands Springfield, Mango, MaxMara, OVS, Adolfo Domínguez, Cortefiel and Women Secret is offering up to 60%.

The above brands, for the most part, are found only in the upper scale shopping centre Multiplaza (both in Escazú and Curridabat).

Other major retailers in Multiplaza offering discounts are the Simán department store, and Saúl E. Méndez mens clothing.

At Simán, Magali Castillo, said promotions are in many departments, including women’s clothing, home decor, toys, men’s and children’s clothing, starting on January 15 and run until stocks last.
