COSTA RICA NEWS – Legislators are questioning the decision of the Luis Guillermo Solís administration to send officers of the Unidad Especial de Intervencion (UEI) or Special Intervention Unit, to train with sharpshooters from the U.S. Southern Command.

In accordance to the decision of the Executive, selected police officers from Costa Rica will train with 2014 Commando Forces, legislators of the Frente Amplio (FA) party denounced.

Legislators are concerned over the fact that the first administration of the Partido Accion Cuidadana (PAC) is sending police officers for military training, and even more so since they are the units in charge of tackling social protests in Costa Rica.

Sending SIU members to train is backed by a decree, signed by the Executive, that also includes the names of those who will go for the specialized training, the FA legislators noted.
