RICO’s Q ā Russia will not save Ortega. Moscow does not have the capacity to sustain this protection indefinitely, according to former US mission chief in Managua, Kevin O’Reilly, who shook up the political landscape with stark warnings about Nicaragua’s immediate future.
In a revealing interview, the retired US official dismantled the supposed “absolute protection” of the Ortega-Murillo regime by Russia, asserting that it is a “leaky Russian ceiling” with very clear limits.

This already happened in Syria and Venezuela during their most critical moments.
In his message, O’Reilly sent a direct message to police, military personnel, and Sandinista rank and file: “The transition is inevitable, and they should not assume they will receive eternal protection from the leadership”.
O’Reilly also warned of the Trump Administration. “Unpredictable,” he warned that the regime is making a serious miscalculation if it thinks it can maintain a permanent confrontation with Washington without drastic consequences.
“Slowly… and then suddenly,” using a famous metaphor, he explained that major political changes occur unexpectedly when structures based on fear collapse.
