Q COSTA RICA — Because she allegedly altered computer systems and irregularly stamped the passport of the detained individual, an official from the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME), stationed at Juan Santamaría International Airport, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly facilitating the irregular entry into the country of a foreigner classified as highly dangerous and linked to a terrorist organization.
The Deputy Prosecutor’s Office for Probity, Transparency, and Anti-Corruption led three raids and ordered the arrest of the official, surnamed Barquero.
The foreigner, whose identity has not been revealed, remains in custody at the disposal of immigration authorities, who are processing the cancellation of his immigration status. Nor did authorities clarify whether this is the case of the individual arrested in recent weeks for his connection to Hamas.

Two of the raids were carried out at the airport and one at the accused’s residence, in order to seize evidence relevant to the case.
The Attorney General’s Office indicated that the investigation also seeks to dismantle the criminal organization that may be operating behind the case and prevent future irregular entries that threaten national stability.
