COSTA RICA NEWS – September is around the corner and so is the start of the heaviest rains of the season.
Altough we have had a pretty light rainy season so far, the dark skies and afternoon thunderstorms have begun and will only intensify in the coming weeks, right into the end of October.
The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) – the national weather service – tells us to take precautions for heavy afternoon storms and flash floods.
One of the major problems of the season are clogged sewers.
Each year, many areas around San José experience flooding during heavy downpours because, one the sewers are full of debris and second, can’t handle the volume of water coming down in a short time.
Around the country, people are reminded to keep an eye on the rivers and creeks and have an emergency evacuation plan in place.
