Q24N (Prensa Latina) Pope Francis is concerned about the political issues experienced by some Latin American countries, Bolivian President Evo Morales said, denouncing attacks against leftist presidents and former presidents.
After meeting with the Pope, Morales told the reporters that there are no dictatorships or military coups in Latin America, but there are judicial coups or coups from the Congress, referring to the attacks against progressive leaders in countries like Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay or Venezuela.
Morales denounced that leftist governments are attacked from the United States, however, right-wing governments are never attacked politically, economically or militarily.
Therefore, our people have to be informed so that together we can continue to defend our democratic processes of deep transformation, he said.
Bolivian President began today a visit to the Vatican where he was received by the Pope Francis, with whom he discussed the current Bolivian socioeconomic situation, especially anti-poverty policies.
At the meeting, Morales asked the Supreme Pontiff to canonize Spanish Jesuit priest Luis Espinal, noted for his commitment to the most disadvantaged, who was tortured and killed in 1980 by Bolivian dictatorship.
Tomorrow, Evo Morales will participate, along with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Rafael Correa, in the World Meeting of Popular Movements, organized by the Vatican, where they will expose the situation in Latin America.
