The traffic situation on Avenida 2 by the Caja this Wednesday morning

Q COSTA RICA – If you are thinking of heading into downtown San Jose today, or for the rest of the week for that matter, think it twice, congestion of the city core is at maximum with the temporary closure of the Avenida Segunda (2) in the area of the Caja.

From early Wednesday morning, crews have been working on the completion of the state that will host the Festival Internacional de las Artes (FIA) 2017 that kicks off Thursday evening.

The complete closure was to allow the movements a big crane to unload the tons of equipment brought in special for the event.

This morning, the live television news cameras gave us a glimpse of the congestion, as all traffic on Avenida 2 was detoured onto the narrow Calle 3, creating one gigantic bottleneck.

By this evening and possibly tomorrow, Thursday, traffic will be restricted to one or two lanes of the Avenida 2, between Calles 7 and 9 (from the Caja to the Plaza de la Democracia).

Affected are also bus stops and closures of secondary arteries.

The Festival Internacional de las Artes Costa Rica is the largest arts festival in the country and one of the most important in Latin America, that will feature dance, theater, music, design, crafts, film, literature, workshops, visual arts, and more for 10 days – from June 29 to July 9.

The center of San José will be the scene of more than 147 national and international shows, from 17 countries in Latin America and Europe.

More info on the FIA can be found at http://fiacr.com/ or on Facebook.
