Gerardo Cruz Died, The Young Man Who Denounced Street Harassment

QCOSTARICA – It was minutes after 6:00pm Thursday when the 22 year-old young man, Gerardo Cruz, who dared to shame an alleged sexual pervert in the streets of downtown San Jose, died in hospital.

Doctors say cause of death was cardiac arrest, losing his 43 day battle for life after being stabbed by a still unknown assailant, two days after the video of the man filming up a young lady’s dress, went viral on the social media.

Gerardo’s mother, Ana Patricia Barquero, confirmed to the media her son’s death at 6:18pm, in the intensive care unit of the Hospital Calderon Guardia.

The family had remained hopeful of Gerardo’s recovery, when more than a week ago, and four major surgeries, began to open his eyes and understand what was going on around him.

It was on the night of October 7, when walking home from work, Gerardo was attacked, stabbed multiple times, in what police has yet to uncover a motive. The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) has said publicly that they have ruled out vengeance over the publication of the video as the motive for the attack.

The alleged “viejo verde”, Spanish for sexual pervert, weeks back publicly said he had no part in the attack against the young man, and was hopeful of his recovery, holding no grudges.
Gerardo’s girlfriend, Karol Zuñiga is expecting his child, six months into her pregnancy.
