QCOSTARICA – A predicted by the Q, the price of gasoline did in fact drop at 12:01 today, Thursday.
A litre of super gasoline today at the pumps is ¢445, regular ¢424, and diesel ¢345.
What this means is that, for example, it costs today ¢25,440 colones to fill a 60 litre tank with regular gasoline, some ¢8,000 colones less than yesterday.
The trend to lower gasoline prices in Costa Rica is expected to be maintained for some time, as international prices for oil and finished fuel products (such as what Costa Rica imports) continues to remain low.
Gasoline prices in Costa Rica are regulated, the Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Publicos (Aresep) being the government agency to determine prices at the pumps, at all gasoline stations across the country.
The Refinadora Costarricense de Petroleo S.A. (RECOPE) is the state refinery that, in effect does not refine anything, rather, it imports the finished product and distributes it to retailers.
