gallery-home-1QCOSTARICA – Although unemployment in the country is 9.7%, the market is still open for specialized employees — for example, at a job fair sponsored by the foreign investment development agency CINDE, 48 international and local companies are seeking bilingual workers for a variety of jobs.

In Costa Rica, bilingual means inevitably English speaking, and some of the companies want other skills along with the language capability, such as computer skill. But, despite the yearning need of these companies, many if not most of these jobs will go unfilled because of the poor training in high schools.

But English is not the only foreign language in demand, although opportunities are limited in Portuguese, French, German, Dutch and Mandarin. The job fair will be held February 20-21-22 at the Antigua Aduana (former customs house) in San José.
