COSTA RICA NEWS – A bill introduced by legislator for the Movimiento Libertario, José Alberto Alfaro, would sanction with up to four years in prison the dissemination of intimate images of a person without their consent.

The proposal,  dubbed the “Karina Bolaños” bill, seeks to amend Article 196 bis of the Penal Code criminalizing revenge porn“, according to Alfaro.

The event, besides the personal embarrassment, cost Bolaños her job. She was fired by then President Laura Chinchilla in August 2012.

Consulted by the press, Karina Bolaños was excited to learn about the initiative, saying that it will give a person the tools to defend themselves from a similar situation she went through.

“There are the courts, but no law that actually protects us. Such a law would be an incredible support,” said Bolaños.

With respect to her situation, Bolaños explained her case is in the hands of the court. Bolaños added that she was recently informed that the case is going to trial because of new evidence against the person who posted the video.

  1. What the hell puritan jargon are you talking about? Sounds like the ISIS: no berka = death. STOP! This is what freedom is all about. I personally do not like these photos in the many tabloids, but the choice to publish and the choice to read are not mine.
