Today, Friday, is not a good day to be heading to downtown San José. The recommendation is to stay away from the downtown area until at least 1pm, as union workers in energy, telecommunications, health and other sectors will join teachers in a massive protest.

The Policia de Tránsito will be closing Paseo Colon and Avenida Central and traffic on all cross streets.

German Marín, head of the traffic police, asks people to stay away from the area in the morning hours, to well into the afternoon, when the situation is expected to normalize.

Affected most likely will be the General Cañas (main route to and from the airport), the Circunvalacióna and the Ruta 27 (San José – Caldera) between the La Sabana and Santa Ana.

For those who have flights out of Costa Rica today best is to allow more time than usual and seek out alternate routes to make your flight on time.

The following map will give you an indication of the areas that are expected affected by the protest.
