[BLOG] I am sooooo out of step!

I had a birthday last week and deeply regret it.

For me, and perhaps only me, the times and emotions of people on a global level are retched. Thing are so terribly sad. Maybe I read, watch and listen to too much news which in itself has always been emotionally balanced until now, until right now.

In one moment, I believe Costa Rica has not a chance in a million to correct the culture of corruption and crime which has been ingrained (“Yes,” ingrained into our society for thirty years or more. Then I hope those who comment are right and I support them. (Am I bipolar?)

On the other hand, taking a quick study of the U.S., China, Thailand, Ukraine and all of the Middle East: Perhaps we are more civilized, or maybe we do not understand the seriousness surrounding our little country, or perhaps we do not care?

I read and see corruption penetrating the dreaded drug cartels which emotionally Tico as well as Expats sort of dismiss as harmless because the druggies have not killed too many people in our Nation. Then the police who have had many bad apples rob, steal and kill innocent people for profit, or the transit police who have a plethora of bribe takers, or the worst of all, the legal system, the judges as well as mayors who have taken big bribes to free the guilty and in the South a mayor with his driver recruited youngsters of poverty who would be sold for sex and who has yet to be tried.

Now, a song, a singer, who captured the Grammy Awards is under fire as a Satanist. Whatever is okay or good, becomes a selling point for evil. She is seventeen years old and wrote the song “Royals” at fifteen and one-half. (Now seventeen years old.)

Her name is Lorde (pronounced Lord) who having a multi-million dollar label contract and whose largest purchase since receiving a multi – year “deal” has been a queen sized bed and even that has been forged into the satanic. Hardly a Catholic threat.

I never really listened to her music (Which I have now heard and find refreshing and enthralling) but really have ignored the wonderful but forgetful gadgets from Europe and the United States because we do not have the infrastructure to support them. “Hell,” if we cannot build a bridge and must rely on Sir Donald Bailey for his World War II creation for traffic support how can we keep up with iPhone 5, 3D printers, cars that park themselves or cars that can seemingly go endless miles on one good shot of electricity?

We cannot even pay the school teachers on time, nor within reason.

For me, to make a phone call or receive a phone call in Costa Rica is truly worth the payment. I need nothing more! To have my bank actually balance payments is a minor miracle worth the Pope’s blessings.

Maybe it is best to only watch local T.V. I understand that there are specials on the fast food menus.

  1. What is the point of this article Juan? That things work her or don’t – you are glad to be here but everything is dysfunctional? I am not sure what the point is sincerely…

    • BD After reading, perhaps I do not have a point, only frustration and used Q to vent. Sorry.
