COSTA RICA NEWS – The  Ministerio de Economia, Industria y Comercio de Costa Rica (MEIC) – Ministry of the Economy, says that tourists, both national and foreign, who have been robbed should file criminal complaints with the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ).

The announcement follows the robbery occurred last weekend at a up scale hotel in Playa Tambor, where guests at the hotel reported thieves breaking into their rooms while they slept, making off with cash, jewellery and electronics.

The Tambor hotel is owned by the Spanish hotel chain Barceló. But this is not the first hotel to be targeted by thieves.

The MEIC, nor country’s tourism board, the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT), have the ability to investigate crimes or th ability to guarantee tourists a safe stay at hotels.

Tourists victims of crimes are being asked to file a report with police, who can then investigate.
