COSTA RICA NEWS – The Government of Nicaragua said it is limiting from three to two the number of daily trips bound for Costa Rica by Tica Bus and Transnica.

The administrative sanction will have a “minimum effect” of 30 days, that is it will be in place during the month of December and the first week in January 2015, according to the noticed by the Ministerio de Transporte e Infraestructura (MTI) – Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure

The sanction coincides with the period of greatest influx of passengers.

The directive comes one month after the MTI asked both Costa Rican bus operators to improve service on the Nicaragua leg of the trip, including providing sanitary services and benches at bus stops where they pick up passengers.

The directive does not apply to the Nicaragua bus operators offering service from Nicaragua to Costa Rica, Nica Express and Central Line.

Last October, the Consejo de Transporte Público de Costa Rica (CTP) – Costa Rica’s Public Transport Council, denied the Nicaraguan bus company, Nicabus, an operating license in the country.

Thousands of Nicaraguans living in Costa Rica, mostly for work, spend the holidays in their home country. Between 300.000 and 500.000 Nicaraguans live and work in Costa Rica, mainly in housework, farming and construction.
