TODAY NICARAGUA NEWS – President Daniel Ortega has come to the support of independent street vendors, telling municipalities that it cannot displace anyone who “earns a living honestly” in squares, parks and other recreation areas.

Ortega, through the office of the Coordinadora del Consejo de Comunicación y Ciudadanía, headed by his wife and First Lady, Rosario Murillo, said they (municipalities) cannot take away the right to work of those who seek to earn an honest living for themselves and their families.

“We cannot, until we have alternatives of decent work with decent pay, displace them,” said Murillo.

“It has to be clear to everyone. We have spoken to tourism officials, municipalities and chambers of commerce and have asked them to understand (…) it is poverty and in the fight against poverty we are doomed (…),” added Murillo.

The First Lady stressed that the “brothers and sisters” who work independently that “Commander Daniel” wants them to rest assured of their right to work.

“You have the right to work every day, as God intended,” said Murillo.
