By: Wilberth Villalobos Castrillo, VozdeGuanacaste – The community of Nosara will come together next Saturday, November 30th to celebrate the 2013 Nosara Ecological Blue Flag Community Festival, with the objective of recognizing the environmental efforts of a diverse group of organizations and individuals from the area.
Jessica Sheffield, one of the event’s five organizers, explained that for the occasion there will be at least 15 stands of organizations such as volunteer firemen, the Nosara Civic Association, the Nosara Security Association, the Nosara Integral Development Association, and the Red Cross, among others.
Starting at 8 a.m. there will be soccer games with a group of children from the community and the presentation of a Bichin Basurin play by the recycling center’s women’s group. Also, there will be traditional dances presented by students from Santa Marta, CINDEA and Serapio Lopez schools.
Sheffield explained that the idea is to promote sustainability through education and other initiatives that are started by members of the community.
Moreover, she stressed that it’s a zero-waste event because all of the food served will be wrapped in almond tree leaves, and that plastic containers will not be used.
During the event the community’s Ecological Blue Flag will be raised, which will remain between the office of the Nosara Public Force and the Serapio Lopez school.
Currently, Playas Garza, Guiones, and Pelada have the environmental distinction, along with six homes and three schools in the community.
“We hope to have the highest possible number of people present, and we don’t want them to congratulate us, but rather join us,” explained Sheffield.
