The heavy rains and strong winds Sunday afternoon, caused emergencies in different parts of the country. One of the main incidents attended was in Alajuelita, where, according to the Bomberos (Fire Department) report, a person is believed dragged by Cañas river.

The residents told authorities that this person was dragged by rising waters due to the rains while lying on the bank of the river.

The incident was reported at 4:20 pm and search is expected to resume this morning (Monday).

Meanwhile, the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Emergency Commission – reported floods in cantons such as Tibás and Desamparados, in San José, as well as Coto Brus in the southern part of the country.

In Leon VII and Tibás, several homes lost their roofs and downed utility poles, in the area of the Paseo de las Flores mall, in Heredia, strong winds took down several power lines.

Areas such as Mercedes Norte, Lotes Peralta, Jardines del Beneficio, Calle Naranjo, Miraflores, former Mabe factory, Tierra Blanca, Bajo los Molinos, Los Malinches, San Rafael centro, Santa Lucía, Jardines Real, La Victori and Corazón de Jesús were without power for most of Sunday night.
