QCOSTARICA – A pregnant women with 36 weeks gestation could become the first autochthonous case of the Zika virus in Costa Rica, reports Chrhoy.com

According to the report, the Minister of Health, Dr. Fernando Llorca, confirms this is a woman in Guanacaste with a “very suspicious” case of carrying the Zika virus.

The pregnancy was normal, underwent ultrasound evidence that the baby does not have microcephaly.

“She’s a pregnant woman who tested negative test for Zika, and have ruled out Chikungunya or Dengue. We are doing a more concentrated and specific test and I hope to have the results on Monday or Tuesday,” said Llorca.

The minister explained the case is handled as a suspect until proven otherwise.

So far two cases imported from Colombia and Honduras have been registered in the country, a third rated “highly suspicious”, the case of the American tourist who allegedly contracted the virus in Costa Rica has not been confirmed.
