Sara Salazar, president of RECOPE, says the cost is justified
Sara Salazar, president of RECOPE, says the cost is justified

QCOSTARICA | How much does it cost to get a logo designed in Costa Rica? The answer is ¢1.4 million colones (US$2.600 at today’s dollar exchange rate).

That is the amount the state refinery, Refinadora Costarricense de Petroleo (RECOPE), paid to refresh its logo.

“We want to show transparency, clarity, freshness, cleanliness, that we are radiant.” That is the justification offered by Sara Salazar, executive president of the RECOPE.

Salazar says the “graphic renewal” was made under the new strategic plan for 2016-2017 approved by the RECEPE board of directors.

The new logo is part of the State entity’s mission and vision that includes the strategy “Secured Energy” (Seguridad Energética). “We are the company that contributes to energy security and the development of Costa Rica guaranteeing the supply of fuels, asphalt and gasoline, with business excellence and quality, in a socially and environmentally responsible manner”.

The social media has been quick to respond to the news, with postings of taking only a few minutes to design the logo using a simple and free graphics program, many asking if they can now bill RECOPE for their work.

You be the judge if the cost was warranted based on the results.

RECOPE is constantly criticized for their inefficiency and wastefulness that contributes to high gasoline prices in Costa Rica, the highest in the region, even with the current international price of crude oil well below US$50 a barrel.
