QCOSTARICA – The Plaza de la Cultura, in the centre of San Jose, will undergo a process of renewal, with the aim of providing a better experience for visitors and at the same time protect the underground structure that houses the Central Bank museum.
The work that started on Monday will cost an estimated US$3 million dollars, that includes installing a new sealing system and channelling of rainwater, to prevent leaks and floods.
“The current pavement (slab) of the Plaza de la Cultura is highly porous and permeable, a condition that allows filtering rainwater,” said Rafael Marin, architect of the Central Bank that integrates the project team.
The Plaza, adjacent to the Teatro Nacional, will also get three new ramps for handicap access and better night lighting, and a new fountain.
