Respiratory viruses claimed the 49 more lives than last year, according to the Ministry of Health.
A report by the head of Vigilancia de la Salud, Mary Ethel Trejos, up to last week 62 people have died this year from respiratory viruses. In 2012 there were only 13 deaths reported
The majority of the viruses is H1N1 influenza, with 32 victims.
The number of children with respiratory viruses also grew. So far this yea there have been 12 recorded deaths of under the age of 19, compared to two last year.
