All 17 Riteve stations will be closed on Saturday, August 2, to mark the celebration of the Virgen de los Angeles. Noteworth is that the Cartago station will be closed on Friday, August 1, as well.
Riteve is always closed on Sundays.
All private vehicles ending with the license plate 7 and all public transport vehicles (taxis and buses, for example) with plates ending in 1 and 6, will have until tomorrow for the inspection.
On August 1 the inspection starts for private vehicles ending in 8 and public transport vehicles with plates ending 2 and 7.
Not having the Riteve vehicular inspection current comes with a ¢47.000 colones fine and possible confiscation.
Many are under the false impression that there is a 30 day grace period while in re-inspection. But in fact, according to the Ley de Tránsito (Traffic Law) any vehicle without the current Riteve is subject to a fine.
The 30 day period applies only for Riteve re-inspection (inspection of only the failed items) and at 1/2 the fee. After the 30 days, the vehicle is subject to a full inspection and full fee.
