(QCOSTARICA) Despite the downpours Friday afternoon the Ruta 27 remains open and unaffected. For now. However, that can change at any time.

Traffic through the area between Atenas and Orotina is slow, with “paso regulado” at kilometer 45, the site of the landslide Wednesday.

Globalvia, the road concessionaire, is said to be making improvement to the steep slope and has been asked, requested, by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (Ministerio de Obras Publicas y Transportes – MOPT) to table a solution to the ongoing problems along the highway to the Pacific coast. Globalvia has until July 24 to present its report.

The Ruta 27 has been mired with landslides and road closures almost from the first days it opened, the first rainy season wreaking havoc causing numerous landslides along the newly constructed road. And lets not forget the constant falling rocks.

But, in all this, never has there been a suspension of tolls.
