Choque hoy en Ruta 32

The crash occurred on the Ruta 32, the San Jose – Limon Thursday afternoon, when a trailer lost his container, and hit by oncoming tractor trailer. Fortunately no one was hurt in the accident, only material damages.

The Ruta 32 is one of the roads, in particular the section between Heredia and Guapiles, where the road weaves through the Braulio Carrillo national park, with blind curves, narrow width,  no shoulders and careless and speeding drivers.

Another “really bad” road is the Ruta 27, a road that claims lives almost daily.

The latest Thursday night, minutes before 10:00pm, when a driver, a 25 year old man whose identity was not released to the press, lost control of his vehicle and his life apparently speeding down the “Altos de las Palomas” (Escazu – Santa Ana) portion of the road, travelling westbound.

The Hyundai Tiburón was on its back following the impact. Enrique Morales, paramedic for the Cruz Roja de Santa Ana, said the man died at the site of the accident. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

Westbound traffic (San José – Santa Ana) was completely closed off for hours while judicial investigators collected evidence and removed the body.

Without braking, vehicles can reach speeds of 120 km/h and more in seconds, on a winding road that has no banking, an exit, bus bays and slow moving traffic.
