bs-bz-southwest-adds-bwi-liberia-costa-rica-20-001(QCOSTARICA)  Southwest Airlines  is expanding service from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to the Daniel Oduber International airport in Costa Rica.

The discount carrier will offer new weekly nonstop flights between Baltimore and Liberia (LIR) starting on Nov. 7. Southwest began service from BWI to San José, Costa Rica, in March.

The new route will bring the number of international markets served by Southwest at BWI to eight.

“As Southwest continues its international expansion at BWI Marshall, our passengers are enjoying new flight opportunities,” Paul J. Wiedefeld, CEO for the airport, said in the announcement. ”

International passenger traffic at BWI has steadily been on the rise, increasing more than 22 percent in the first quarter.

Dallas-based Southwest is the largest carrier at BWI, where it carries more than half of all passengers.
