The kick off was at 2:30am Costa Rica time and by the time for the first edition of the morning news, Costa Ricans who slept in this morning learned of the loss in Sydney, Australia, in the pre World Cup friendly play.

Tim Cahill scored in the 69th minute to give Australia and its new coach.

The win before 29,000 fans marked Ange Postecoglou’s debut as Socceroos coach. Postecoglou took over after Holger Osieck was fired after consecutive 6-0 losses to Brazil and France in friendlies.
