COSTA RICA NEWS — The start of trial for the murder of environmentalist Jairo Mora, keeps on being pushed back.
Initially the trial was to have begun on Monday, October 27. However, one of the suspects, was not available, coming down with a case of chickenpox, so it had been rescheduled for today, Thursday, after the suspect invoked the right to be present at the trial.
John Quesada and Mario Chen, the defendant’s lawyer, reported to court that the coroner’s office validated their client’s medical condition and needed to be isolated until Monday, pushing back the start of trial once more.
Mora, 26 years of age, a champion of conservation in the Caribbean coast, particularly of leatherback turtles was allegedly murdered last year, on May 31, 2013, by the seven men accused of the crime, who also sequestered and sexually assaulted four women visiting Costa Rica, on tour with Mora.
A total of 26 witnesses are expected to give testimony in the case.
