The Policiá de Transito is resuming the volunteer program, where civilians and members of other police forces will be trained to work as traffic officials.

Angie Meneses, spokesperson for Tránsito, says the volunteers will be engaged mainly in maintaining vehicular flow. Meneses was clear that the volunteers will not attend to emergencies, such as traffic accidents, and will be accompanied by a traffic official at all times.

The director of the Policia de Tránsito, Germán Marín, confirmed that some 150 volunteers will be recruited into the program, a program that was introduced in September 2012, but suspended.

Meneses added that once they have an “important” number of recruits (30 to 50) they will start the training program of the Ley de Tránsito.

So far only 5 of the original 150 has resubmitted applications, according to Meneses.
