The RSN (Red Sismológica Nacional UCR-ICE) is an institution in charge of the geological study of Costa Rica, especially in the area of seismology and volcanology. It was created by an agreement between the Escuela de Geología de la Universidad de Costa Rica (School of Geology of the University of Costa Rica) and the Área de Amenazas y Auscultación Sísmica y Volcánica del Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (ICE) in 1982.
The offices and the main monitoring center are located in the back of the School of Geology in San Pedro de Montes de Oca.
The RSN investigates at a general level the geological phenomena that occur in the country. They provide trainings, talks and give information related to earthquakes and volcanoes and also informs through social networks the data of the reported earthquakes as senses in the country and information about the volcanic activity.
