QCOSTARICA – An altercation with a pirate taxi and not heeding to the warning of some bar goers, a young man lost his life after being attacked by a mob (turba in Spanish) of about 20 men in Playa del Coco, Guanacaste, on Friday night.
Alejo Leiva Lachner, 21 years of age, and resident to Escazu, died around midnight Friday at the Enrique Baltodano Briceño in (Liberia) Hospital.
According to the report by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) – Judicial Police, Leiva was vacationing in the Pacific beach town with a group of friends.
Apparently, the deceased and his friend took a pirate taxi to a bar in Playa del Coco. When they got out of the vehicle and altercation ensued between Leiva and the driver, who almost ran over one them, so another hit the car.
The story ended there, for the time being. The group of friends entered the bar. Soon after, a guy approached them and warned they should leave, they were looking for them. But they stayed.
A while later a mob appeared, the group of young men scurried out of the bar, but Lieva was not able to get away.
The young man was taken to hospital where he later died of his wounds.
The OIJ Liberia detachment is investigating the case, looking for those responsible for the fatal attack.
