QCOSTARICA – What was once a very lucrative year-end business, the “chinameros” (food vendors) of the Zapote Fair say this year has not been a good one, admitting high prices are keeping away customers.
“Zapote is not what it used to be”, agree many interviewed by La Nacion.
Many of the vendors are complaining that “buyers are few” despite that daily between 8.000 and 10.000 people attend the Fair that runs from Christmas Day to January 4, from 11:00am to 1:00am.
Not only are the food concessions and stands that are hurting, games and rides concessionaires are also complaining of low sales.
“This year is very slow, never like this in the past, and it has hit us hard,” said María José Cruz, of the Mango Locura, one of the many vendors that have decided to open well after noon, given no customers in the early hours.
The answer is in the comments of visitors to the annual fair, who in the majority say the same thing: too expensive.
