QCR – Walmart last Friday, July 14, opened its 10th store in the country, located in the city of Liberia, Guanacaste. Store number 10 is also the first outside the Central Valley or Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM).

Located a couple of blocks west of the Ruta 1, the Interamericana, on the road to the Liberia airport, the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR), the company says it invested almost ¢8 billion colones (US$14 million dollars) in the store that will serve the northwest part of the country, and direct employment for 118 people.

“With the arrival of Walmart in Liberia we reaffirm our plan for growth and investments in the country, with which we hope to benefit more communities with our commercial proposal, while contributing to generate sources of work and progress to communities,” explained Mariela Pacheco, Coordinator of Corporate Affairs for the big-box store.

Local reports said the opening ceremony was full of activities including: typical Costa Rica dances, clown presentations, food tastings, concerts and so on and that the activities will continu until Sunday, August 13.

The Liberia store hours are from Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. And Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The other 9 Walmart stores are located in San Sebastián, Escazú Curridabat, Cartago, Heredia, Alajuela, Tibás, Guadalupe and Desamparados.
