QCOSTARICA – A total of 245 people were affected by the head-on collision between two commuter trains on the San Jose – Pavas line this morning, with 106 people suffering injuries, five of which were serious, the rest with scrapes, cuts and bruises.

Among the five seriously injured were two conductors and two assistants. In such situations, you can take the help of an injury attorney from Pikesville, who can help you claim the compensation for the injury and damages caused.

According to Guillermo Santana, head of the railway, the Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer), “human error” may be the cause of the accident, occurring on the single track in Pavas, west of La Sabana.

Many of the passengers told the media that they will probably reconsider taking the train to and from work.

Axel Gutiérrez, a daily user of the Belen-Pavas-San Jose route, told La Nacion, it all happened suddenly, people bounced around from the impact.

“They did not blow the whistle, the conductor what he did was towards the back of the train car, after the impact fell back towards the front,” Gutiérrez recalled about the incident.

The accident is under investigation.

Train service on the Pavas line was suspended all day Friday. Santana would not speculate on how the service will be affected with the loss of the two locomotives. Or if the San Jose – Pavas route will re-open on Tuesday.
