The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) confirmed that the person drowned in Playa Negra, in Guanacaste, is a 71-year-old American identified as John Seymour Mazmanian.
The drowning occurred Wednesday morning when the deceased was near a hotel where, apparently, he was staying.
