Q TECH – Only days following the world’s biggest cyber attack that is still claiming victims and threatens to create even more havoc on Monday, May 15, the Intercontinental hotel in Escazu (San Jose) will be the site for the Hacking Challenge 2017 in Costa Rica.

The Hacking Challenge 2017 will also take place on May 24 in Panama City, Panama.

A “hacker” is not always a delinquent who, behind a computer, is dedicated to violate websites at will, that is, gain unauthorized access to data with malicious intent.

The term gets a bad rap. In computing a “hacker” can be said to be any skilled computer expert that uses their technical knowledge to overcome a problem. While “hacker” can refer to any computer programmer, the term has become associated in popular culture with a “security hacker”, someone who, with their technical knowledge, uses bugs or exploits to break into computer systems.

The Hacking Challenge 2017 in Costa Rica and Panama is about computer security aficionados to demonstrate their capabilities as hackers. The objective is that participants in the first cybersecurity challenge in the country will help institutions, companies and organizations identify risks in their networks and define effective security strategies.

The challenge? Violate a corporate website protected by cunning by professionals.

The competition will take place in a controlled environment and on a platform created especially for the competition. That is to say, no real corporate website will be put at risk.

Observers will be able to see live computer attacks waged against organizations, as well as tools used by the hackers.

Participation is free. Registration starts at 1:00pm. The selection of winners starts at 5:30pm.
