QCOSTARICA – The Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) – national power and light company, a division of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) – is looking for a 35% increase in electricity rates.
The company made its request to the regulating authority, the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep), for approval to take effect starting in December 2015.
The CNFL says the increase is needed to purchase power in 2016 and to cover energy purchases by ICE for the previous period.
But, we can expect the request to be denied, given that the Aresep has rejected the latest studies by the CNFL, for inconsistencies and lack of justifications on the information supporting its requests.
