Road from Heredia in the area of La Uruca

QCOSTARICA – The daily traffic nightmare between La Uruca and Heredia, particularly in the area of the Virilla river bridge, could come by the end of next year, with a road expansion.

The Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi) said on Thursday that the expansion between the Pozuelo factory (in La Uruca) and the Jardines del Recuerdo cemetery (in La Valencia) will start on July 1.

The executive director of the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (Inter-American Development Bank – IDB), Carlos Villalta, said the bank is waiting on final designs for the work, to disperse funding of the project.

According to the Conavi, the 2 kilometre stretch of road will be four lanes, have bus bays, sidewalks, guardrails, and a new bridge over the Virilla river and will cost US$9.6 million dollars.

The work will be carried out by the Spanish company, Pirenaica S.A., that is expected to take 14 months to complete, that is the road would be ready in September 2016.

In the meantime, between July this year and September next year, expect even more traffic congestion to and from the “Cuidad de las Flores” (City of Flowers), Heredia.
