COSTA RICA NEWS — The Ministerio de Seguridad (MSP) has prepared an elite group of the Grupo de Apoyo Operacional (GAO) – Operational Support – of the Fuerza Pública (police force), to face dangerous situations while riding a motorcycle.

The officers participated in a special course of almost three months, which was taught by the Panama police, learning to perform maneuvers for application during special operations.

The practice is for two officers riding together, the driver concentrating on the road, the passenger watching over the situation and protecting both.  The officers have been trained to zigzag and apply other evasive maneuvers while riding back to back.

“We have seen many events of killing for hire, many on motorcycles. We have to give a strong impetus to our officers,” said the ministro de Seguridad, Celso Gamboa.

The MSP made a presentation of this practice Friday morning outside the Museo de Arte Costarricesne (Art Museum) in La Sabana, in a graduation ceremony of the 44 officers that took part in the training course.

According to the director of the Fuerza Publica, Juan José Andrade, these officers are now ready to act in any part of the country, plus will be training other colleagues to develop these skills.
