(QCOSTARICA) Starting this week, the price of gasoline will jump ¢43 colones per litre of super, ¢35 for regular and ¢36 for diesel fuel.
Thus, the new price of a litre of super gasoline will be ¢643 (from ¢600), regular ¢610 (from ¢575) and diesel ¢514 (from ¢478).
The new prices were approved by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) and will be in effect the day after publication in La Gaceta, expected sometime this coming week.
According to the Aresep, the increase is caused by a reduction of fuel stock and increased demand in the United States.
In a news release, the Aresep said, “with this setting, the international price is the main component of the price of gasoline (about 45%). In the case of diesel, this factor represents a little over 50% of the price.”
The price of natural gas, used mostly in kitchens around the country, will also increase by ¢2 colones a litre.
This is the fourth consecutive price increase this year, after eight drops between 2014 and 2015.
