Groups and individuals continue their support for Gerardo Cruz Barquero

QCOSTARICA – Gerardo Cruz Barquero, the young man stabbed last Wednesday night in San Sebastian, days after publicly shaming a street harassment on the social media, continues in hospital, relatives saying he is stable but doctors suspect possible brain damage.

Gerardo, who was stabbed in the chest and abdomen by an unknown attacker, has since undergone three surgeries. Although his life signs are stable, he is still in a coma and is not reacting to stimuli.

Family and friends keep a constant vigil outside the Hospital Calderon Guardia, in San Jose. Support groups and individuals keep showing up, lending their moral and spiritual support for the 22 year-old man inside.

Placards have been posted, the flames of lit candles continue.

According to Johanny Barquero, his nephew remains in serious but stable condition. “All of us talk to him, but still does not react, does not move,” said the elder Barquero.

Last night the family had expected the latest report by doctors, but were told they have to wait for this morning.

The press office of the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS), headed by Maria Isabel Solis, says doctors will only provide information to the family.

Police say they are no closer to solving the crime, the attack on the young man on his way home from his job as a baker. Authorities have ruled out robbery as a motive. One theory being explored by investigators is a possible vengeance.  Read our report: Prove It I Was Recording”, Says The Man In Alleged Street Harassment
