The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Emergency Commission – declared a yellow alert for the South Pacific and green alert for the Central Pacific, North Pacific, North Zone, and Central Valley, as a result of the impact of the latest rains.
The president of the CNE, Alexander Solís, said they have received a report of damage to at least 200 structures, mostly houses.
The areas most affected are Río Claro, where some 150 houses were damaged, followed by Grecia, in Alajuela.
The CNE reports, at the moment, 14 cantonal committees are actively collecting information on the events of the last hours, of at least 145 incidents, of which 118 were due to floods and landslides in Coto Brus, Corredores, Golfito, Montes de Oro, Esparza, Quepos, Grecia, Valverde Vega, San Mateo de Orotina, Liberia, Nandayure, Desamparados and Curridabat, the last two in San Jose.

Authorities rule out that there is an influence of some kind of weather phenomenon, attribute the events to typical conditions of the rainy season that runs from May to November, with September and October the worst of the rainy season months.
