QCOSTARICA (12:20pm) – Gerald Campos, interim director of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) assures that the attack on Gerardo Cruz Barquero was not an act of vengeance, for having confronted the man viedoing under a woman’s skirt in the streets of downtown San Jose.
Cruz, on Wednesday night, suffered multiple stab wounds when walking home from work, and is now in critical condition at the Hospital Calderon Guardia.
Police say the young man was attacked after leaving work at a bakery, walking through a park when a man stepped out of a black Honda, and not on a motorcycle as indicated by early reports, stabbing him in the chest and abdomen.
The OIJ said they cannot link the aggression to the Facebook posting on Monday.
Campos added that he has assigned a team to investigate the case and the reasons for the attack, not ruling out the possibility that it may have been more than a random act of violence.
In the meantime, Cruz’s wife is asking people to stop posting on the social media that her husband is dead. “I ask not to make nasty comments, he has not died,” says Karol Zúñiga.

Zúñiga said her husband is in intensive care, in critical condition, after heart surgery to repair the damage from the stab wound.
The woman, who is five months pregnant, says she is hopeful that her husband will put through this and is asking for people to be understanding and respectful.
