Today, the first Friday in August, is International Beer Day (IDB). Founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, the day is now celebrated in 60 countries and 6 continents.
The main purpose of International Beer Day is to:
- Get together with friends and enjoy a beer
- Celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer
- Unite the world under the banner of beer
Celebration
Beer drinkers are encouraged to give the “gift of beer” by someone else a beer, letting beer servers know your gratitude and sample as many different beers as possible.
In Costa Rica, the CervercerĂa Costa Rica (Costa Rican Brewery) – Florida Bebidas, makers of fine beers like the Imperial, Pilsen, Bavaria and Heineken (under license), recommend to enjoy the day in moderation.
Don’t drink and drive
If you are out celebrating this day, please remember to don’t drink and drive. Leave the car a home – taxis are pretty cheap in Costa Rica. Or, have a (non drinking) buddy pick you up.
If drinking at home, remember that domestic violence increases with the amount of alcohol consumer. Don’t, better yet, don’t let your significant other become a statistic.
