Guatuso Hospital in San Carlos

(QCOSTARICA) An irate father beat up a teacher who allegedly physically chastised his daughter Thursday, sending the educator to the hospital. But that wasn’t the end of the matter — he filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor’s office against the teacher!

The school is located in the Alajuela provincial school of Guatuso where, the father charged, the teacher grabbed the girl by the neck. Details of the alleged attack were not available.

Prosecutor Ronny Segura in San Carlos explained, “At first the parents thought the matter concerned a sexual attack but the girl clarified during her official testimony that it was aggression.”

At one time, physical punishment was not unusual in Costa Rican schools but is punishable now.

The prosecutor is investigating if other cases of physical aggression have happened with the teacher. But the father is not out of the woods himself. Such direct action is not legal here no matter what the provocation and the father is vulnerable to criminal punishment.
