A sweater, jacket, & scarf, will be the norm this week in the greater metropolitan area of San Jose with the forecast of strong cold winds.

Q COSTA RICA – If you find traffic lighter than normal today it’s because of the mid-year school vacation that run for the next two weeks. Students will be back to school on July 17.

Also, during the vacation period, the vehicular restrictions of San Jose are suspended. The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) said, as it has in previous years, the reduced vehicular flow does not require the restrictions to be applied, freeing up Traffic officials to concentrate on holiday traffic on the highways and towns with an increasing flow of tourists.

The mid-year school vacation is a period when many Costa Rican families head to the beaches, resorts, and mountains.

Weather wise the first few days, maybe even the entire week, the national weather service – the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) – says cold winds will be the norm in the Central Valley and cooler temperatures in the mountainous areas.will be cold, in particular in most areas of the Central Valley as cold winds will be the order of the day. For the beaches and resorts, lots of sun is expected, but with temperatures a few degrees below normal.

The weather service added to be prepared for tropical wave (onda tropical) 19 of the season, that is expected to increase rain in the Central Valley in particular.
